Become a Citizen Journalist

Are you keen to get engaged with what’s going on in your local area? Have you always wanted to learn more about how other people see life in The Valleys and reach out to people of all ages, and all backgrounds? From communities similar or different to your own?

Becoming a ‘Citizen Journalist’ with the Stories from the Valleys programme provides a completely new way of getting involved with local activities, and getting your voice heard, whilst helping others to do the same.

‘Citizen Journalists’ will be asked to take our story collecting app, SenseMaker®, out into The Valleys to interview people around one (or more!) of our three areas of interest: community; education; sports.

Whether you’re a student or a school leaver, a volunteer or a worker, ‘Citizen Journalism’ is open to all, and can provide you with training and accreditation to give that little bit extra to your CV or college / university application.

Stay tuned for updates on training opportunities near you by familiarising yourself with our events calendar on the website. But for now, you can get started by reading the packs below.

Get out there and strike up a conversation, you don’t know what feelings, discoveries and changes you might ignite. Don’t just listen to the news, create it.
